WHY?

A Civil Partnership Ceremony provides you with a special opportunity to celebrate your relationship in a meaningful way, reflecting your uniqueness as a couple.

There is no set format to a Civil Partnership Ceremony so you can personally choose the words, readings and music, including your vows or commitments. Your ceremony will be written with you, for you, expressing your life, your love and your hopes for your future. It is your special day, let me help you make it both meaningful and memorable!

Why choose a Civil Partnership Ceremony?

Finally, the much-awaited Civil Partnership Act came into operation on the 5th of December 2005 and enabled same-sex couples to register as civil partners of each other. As with Civil Marriage Ceremonies many same sex couples feel that they would like to have a more meaningful ceremony.

Civil Partnership Ceremonies allow gay and lesbian couples to have a ceremony which reflects their individuality, enabling them to publicly declare their love for each other, and share their dreams for their future life together. As for Wedding Ceremonies you are entirely free to choose the content of your ceremony, how and where you would like to hold it and whether it be part of a small or large celebration. Please also refer to the Wedding Ceremony page.

Legalities

Couples regard the humanist ceremony as that which truly acknowledges them as partners. It is the real celebration, expressing their deepest feelings in the company of all their family and friends.

However, it does not form a civil partnership in the legal sense. Most couples therefore, also attend a Register Office, sometimes a day or two before the humanist ceremony, to deal with the legal formalities and obtain a civil partnership certificate. It is not necessary to exchange rings at the Register Office.
