What made you want a Vow Renewal Ceremony to celebrate your marriage?
After Lewis had been in Alder Hey and had his heart operation in 1996 we had always said we wanted to renew our vows. I feel that we were too young to appreciate the marriage ceremony and I think we would both say that we were too young to get married.
We always knew we were lifelong partners (well I did anyway) and we wanted a vow ceremony to celebrate the longevity, strength and commitment the exists in our marriage and family life. I think people often perceive the purpose of a vow renewal as a fresh start after problems within their marriage. We are not in this category and I believe that Emma and I have grown into our relationship through an existence of cooperation, understanding, truth and integrity and mutual respect for each other.
What did your guests say about your ceremony?
Our guests really liked the ceremony and thought that it was beautifully written and delivered. Many said that they felt it fit our relationship more than a formal religious ceremony would.
What will you remember most from your ceremony?
There is no one thing I will remember about the ceremony more than standing in front of people who are important to us and re-committing our promises to each other. The whole day will stay with us forever, or at least until the next celebration ceremony!!
Any general comments about my service?
I feel that you have become a friend of our family and the time and attention that you have given in talking to Emma and I and putting together the wonderful ceremony is truly 'inspirational'. You have certainly chosen a very apt name for your service, although, quite frankly, the term service really does not do justice to what it is that you do.
