Kylie and Mark’s Humanist Wedding Sedbergh
It was important to Kylie and Mark to celebrate their marriage at a place that was special to them. They chose to hold their humanist wedding near Sedbergh at Kylie’s parent’s home.
The had their ceremony in the garden surrounded by trees and flowers. Later they hosted their wedding breakfast and evening celebrations in a tipi in the field next door.
An extract from Kylie and Mark’s Ceremony:
‘Mark and Kylie see their marriage as a relationship between two equals,
which is embodied by Albert Camus in his quote:
Don’t walk behind me, I may not lead.
Don’t walk in front of me, I may not follow.
Just walk beside me and be my friend forever.’
Some feedback from Kylie and Mark:
What made you want a humanist ceremony for your wedding?
Neither of us are religious but we wanted something more than just a registry office wedding. We had also both had the dream of getting married outside and in particular in my parents’ garden in Dowbiggin as it is a very special place for both of us. Having a humanist wedding allowed us to make this dream a reality, and it was absolutely perfect
What did your guests say about your ceremony?
We had so many lovely comments about the entire day, many people saying it was the best wedding they had been to, and in particular how moving, personal and special the ceremony was.
What will you remember most from your ceremony?
I don’t know where to start! Our wedding day really was the best day of our lives, I think I am still on a post-wedding high and grin from ear to ear every time I look at the pictures. And as good as the party was afterwards we both agree that the ceremony was our favourite part.
The incredible weather, beautiful surroundings, all the smiling happy faces of our friends and family, the heartfelt words of ’our story’, our chosen readings and reading our secret vows to each other, it was all absolutely perfect I couldn’t have wished for anything more!
